EBICS REU Program - "Engineering Biological Machines"
Research Experience for Undergraduates is a 10-week Summer Research Program
EBICS announces its Engineering Biological Machines REU open application. The REU is a summer research program for undergraduates and will begin the summer of 2011. The program will fund 15 undergraduate students, with 5 students assigned to EBICS labs at each primary institution: Georgia Institute of Technology, Massachusetts’s Institute of Technology, and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Program dates vary by location but are between May 16, 2011 and August 12, 2011. Women and students from underrepresented minority groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
REU Program Highlights:
- 10 weeks of full-time undergraduate research at Georgia Tech, MIT, or UIUC.
- $4500 stipend per student.
- Additional allowance for travel expenses, housing, and food.
- Travel stipend for the faculty mentor to visit the student’s home institution during the Fall of 2011.
- Peer mentoring, professional development and social engagement with other students on campus.
- Students present their research in a poster session.
- Opportunity to reunite with fellow REU students at a National Conference during the Fall of 2011 (pending the availability of travel awards and funds).
EBICS is a National Science Foundation funded Science and Technology Center whose mission is to create a new scientific discipline for building living, multi cellular machines that address current world problems in health, security and the environment. Applications will be accepted from any student currently enrolled in a science or engineering undergraduate program with a 3.25 overall GPA. United States citizenship or permanent residency is required.
